Development work for D365 how to add temporary user

From my understanding, client needs to purchase a subscription for each user that will connect to their D365 cloud instance. If I am asked to develop an integration, they are going to need to purchase a subscription for me. What happens when I am done? Can they decrease their license count? What about if 6 months later they need a little tweak? Do they need to add me back and then take me off once I am finished?

    Hi Richard Wheeler,

If you read Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide mbs.microsoft.com/.../Dynamics365EnterpriseEditionLicensingGuide.pdf you would find that vendors do not require a license unless they perform business operations.

I have read through this document and it appears that the only way to get a sandbox is to purchase a license. Is this true, even for resellers?

Partners (some criteria must be fulfilled) can get one Tier 1 sandbox (onebox) and one Tier 2 sandbox (multi box environment with Azure SQL database) via IUR (Internal Use Rights) benefit. You could try to contact your local MS representative to find out the exact process for getting these.

You will get an LCS Implementation project just like real customers. But prod environment is not included in IUR.

And of course D365FO Partner Trial (which is free) allows you to deploy unlimited amount of onebox (dev/test/demo) environments in your own Azure subscription.

The IUR environments are hosted by MS in their Azure subscription.

We are working through Ingram-Micro and I feel like I am educating my representative. I will ask sales operations at GP who I can contact at Microsoft.

I have now contacted Microsoft I still do not have a definitive answer. Now there is also MSBC on premise. We simply want a sandbox to develop customizations for clients. What types of MSBC resellers would get a license that would include a sandbox? Do we actually have to purchase a subscription of MSBC? Does it matter if it is in the cloud or on premise? I log into portal.azure.com. I would like to add MSBC there. Is that possible? When clients start purchasing licenses, to what web site will they be going?

What is MSBC? Are you talking about D365 Business Central? This forum and the answers above are about D365 for Finance and Operations.

The Microsoft Business Central consists of Dynamics 365 Business Central Essentials and Dynamics 365 Business Central Premium. Premium adds manufacturing. From my understanding every client gets one sandbox with their purchase. Resellers who want to do development work only still have to pay for a license each month. So we have no way of playing unless we purchase a license. Does anyone know what kind of development tools are available for MSBC? Can we use Visual Studio? How do we deploy the customizations? I know this is all brand new so I am merely trying to gather information as quickly as possible.

Maybe the moderators could move this discussion to the Business Central forum.
