Multiple HQ Communications Server to a single HQ Server

Posted on by 455

Hi

Anyone here has a single HQ Server with multiple HQ Communications server setup?

We found in necessary to have multiple communications server and segment them by connection type as connectivity is a challenge for branches. Some running 3G modem sticks, but performing only at lower rates, some are running on DSL.

I would like to find out , when bandwidth is a challenge to the sites, and observed timeouts (HQ uploads never finish) if the multiple HQ communications server is the best approach.

I am not sure if the yahoo store is available where all data are first upload to some kind of yahoo store or sky drive. and your main server pull data from there. Rest all solution specify by other users works.

    Thanks Jeff.

For the links, prevalent in use if DSL is not available are those USB sticks with 3G, GPRS and do a VPN session where practical.

Given the current challenge of  limited bandwidth, and a need to send a fat BCK file through it. We wrote a BCK splitter tool to split the BCK per day, and let an embedded FTP tool upload it to the HQ Server.

That said, i only need to "write" a code to pick which dates to import.  Will update this thread once we get everything working as designed.

Correct, except you may need to install SO on the Server too, (I think, its been a while, but I don't remember why)  and open SO Admin with the Store's database.  No license is needed for SO.

"Another potential option is to upload the store database and run it on a local machine.

If you are running HQ Client and SO on the Server, download the SO database at night when the store is closed and load it into your SO and set HQ Client to use it.  Just be sure to stop the original store from communicating until you are done with the local connection.  We have done this a dozen or so times with our clients."

    Will try this out.

Since you've had success, did you mean:

Stop HQ Client in Store1 BOS

copy  BOS.Store1 db to HQ Server

At HQ Server, Set  HQ Client setting to point to BOS.Store1 db in HQ Server

At HQ Server, start HQ Client in HQ client

Thanks in advance. ISDN isnt an option unfortunately.

Another thought, don't forget the old style ISDN if your phone company still offers it.  One can bond up to 8 64kb channels (512kb up and down) that might be faster than your DSL connection. Has the same running feet issue as DSL though.

I don't know where you are, but you might investigate a T1 as prices have really come down.

Unfortunately you cannot.  You can give it a starting date only and it will upload everything after that..

Make sure you have plenty of RAM and disk space on both ends.  Starting a year go this month, we only sell SSD in machines to make them fast enough.  4-8 gig RAM and 64b Win 7

Another potential option is to upload the store database and run it on a local machine.

If you are running HQ Client and SO on the Server, download the SO database at night when the store is closed and load it into your SO and set HQ Client to use it.  Just be sure to stop the original store from communicating until you are done with the local connection.  We have done this a dozen or so times with our clients.

    Thanks.

There a way to force a sync for a specific date only? Seems it attempts to upload all past data it missed,, including transaction records already in the hq server .

I needed the detailed transactions to be uploaded daily and it seems to fail complete repeatedly in several attempts. I wanted it to just upload smaller chunks of data hourly based  but fewer records considering the uplink speed. Dial up is likewise scarce in most branch and long distance charges apply so the economical option was to get an unlimited data plan, albeit questionable upload bit rate

Run connections more often or use a dial up connection.
