    Hi Ian,

The base unit of measure is the smallest unit of measure in which you process an item.

Say you and an item that you purchased on pallets, each pallets had 10 boxes, and each box had 100 units.

Then you sold the item either as a box or as a unit.

Then your base unit of measure would be a unit, the unit of measure 'box' would be made of 100 units, and then the unit of measure 'pallet' would be made of 1,000 units.

When you book in a pallet, 1,000 units will be put in stock.

When you sell a box, 100 units will be removed from stock.

    etc..

This means that when using multiple units of measure, Business Central will be able to deal with the item transactions in the base unit of measure.

If you don't use multiple units of measure, then the BUOM is simply the unit of measure for the item.

    Regards,

    Julien
