PSTL GL Combiner formats incorrectly GP 2010

Posted on by 75,730
I am working on a GL account number change for GP 2010 using the GL account modifier tool. The current framework calls for 4-5 and I need to import the crosswalk table. The vast majority of the accounts changes are going from 4-5 to 3-5 but there are a handful staying at 4-5. When I import the tab delimited file with the account changes and run the conversion, what I discovered was that the PSTL took the first digit of the second segment and put it on the end of the first segment and then shortened the second segment. So instead of 1500-12345 being changed to 150-12345 it got changed to 1501-2345. Is this a bug in the PSTL? I matched the version of the PSTL to the version of GP 2010. If I do SELECT * FROM TACHANGE I can see the mistakes in that table.

I found a way around this. I went into the tachange table after validating the accounts and changed the values of OMNESA_1 and OMNESA_2 to what they were supposed to be and then I clicked on the Modify button. This looks like a bug to me.

I have reduced all changes from 4-5 to be 3-5 and the PSTL keeps forcing it to be 4-5. I want these accounts to be 3-5 and then I will run reconcile to remove the blank space. Is the PSTL capable of doing this? If not, I will start writing my own scripts.

Susan, there no plans to use MR here however, I get your point. I am wondering if perhaps they missed a few accounts in their original mappings. I waiting to hear back from them.

    1.  You can't have both a 4-5 and a 3-5.  And especially if you are going to use MR to do reporting.  I ran into this with a company and had to go back and fix all the accounts.  Zero fill if you have to on the 3-5 accounts, this will cause you issues in the long run.  And you can't just have blanks in front of your chart.  Meaning that if you have you segments setup as as 4, 5, you don't put in an account with a blank and only 3 characters for the first segment.  This will cause all types of issues when you try and run Management reporter.  Unless you are talking about different databases and then you are going to have to have multiple mappings for each company.
