Problem upgrading GP13 modified forms and reports using GP16 Utility

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I hope someone can advice how to update modified forms and reports from GP13 to GP16.

I followed the GP16 upgrade guide that I needed to use GP Utility to update forms and reports after GP16 was installed.

In GP16 Utility, I ran the update, but I received many errors. After that, it said update was done. I login to GP16, but didn't see the modified forms and reports, in Customization Maintenance.

Alternatively, I could use Customization Maintenance export them from GP13, then import to GP16, no error. Does this method update the modified forms and reports?

Thank you.

If you still have your version of 2013 installed it is acceptable to export all the modified forms and reports then import them into the new version. This will put all your reports and forms in a dictionary of the new version, but does not guarantee that they will all work.

Major issues will be shown on the import, but other cases where a main table has changed (GL Detail Inquiry for example between version 12 and 14) won't raise an error until you try and run the report. In these cases it is often helpful to export a package of the new unmodified version of the report and compare it to your modified version when viewing the package file in plain text.

Alternatively I would double check that you followed the full process to upgrade your modified dictionaries correctly. If you do not see any modified forms and reports in the new version then it seems unlikely that you had the GP16 Utilities pointing at your old modified dictionaries that contained your old forms and reports.

Also please note that depending on your third party products, each product may upgrade in a different method, and not many that I am aware of actually upgrade through Utilities other than Microsoft owned products.
