The "release to production" report takes too long to generate

I have a problem generating a report. Warehouse: SUR_C. For example, today the report from the beginning of the month to today has been set up. It gets around 4h-6h. Before, it was 1.5h-3h. And it always took a dozen or so minutes. We always make such a report at the end of the month, i.e. for example, we made a report for the entire October 2020.
Once there was a situation where on one of the computers the same report was generated for 1.5 hours and on mine it was 3 hours. Why is it taking so long? Do you have any ideas for a solution to make the report run shorter?

    Ludwig,

what do you think a programmer should improve?

    Hi Ludwig,

actually the problem is it takes too long to generate. Now 4h-6h is being generated. 3 months ago it was generated in 15 minutes. Here's the problem. Fact - I will probably have to talk to the developer.

    Hello norbertb,

I am wondering what report that is?

I don't know a standard "release to production" report and assume that this is something that has been developed especially for your company.

    Is that right?

If so, can you have a talk with the developer who created that report?

There might be something wrong in the general design.

Also, can you let us know for what you need this report for?

In other words, what kind of business process does this report support and why is it needed?

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Andre

    Thank you for your answer!

Could I find out where to check the reasons mentioned? I'm just a beginner :)

There is nothing I can do in AX while generating a report, all AX is unresponsive and there is no way to do anything - all you have to do is wait for the report to be completed. Nothing special is happening in the task manager - just "not responding" information is there.

I don't have any programs running on my computer. In AX, I only run the production release report directly. Nothing else.

    Hi Norbert,

It can be related to many different causes. To know the answer, you have to start monitoring the system. You can e.g.:

    - check SQL activity monitoring at time of slowness if there are blocking transactions

    - review fragmented indexes. Potentially reorganize or rebuild indexes

    - check all other activity running at the same time

    - monitor hardware resources from the SQL server and AOS servers to see if there is a shortage on e.g. CPU or memory

    - use SQL performance reports to check for long running queries or missing indexes.

    - review coding used to build the report
