General Posting Setup

I am using Dynamics 365 Business Central.  I need help understanding how to setup the General Posting Setup.  I understand its' purpose and what a matrix is. My question is how do I setup all the sales accounts.  I have 1 general business posting group = Domestic and 1 general product posting group = retail. I have 9 different Sales accounts that all would be Retail transactions. How can I setup all 9 accounts under Domestic and Retail?

    Hi,

If you will be invoicing using "Items" on the Sales lines, and you require different sales accounts for different items, then as far as I'm aware you need to do the following:

    1) Create multiple "Gen. Product Posting Groups" for each different Sales Account you want to post to.

    2) Assign the Gen product posting group to the relevant items.

    3) Setup the combination of Gen Bus Posting Group and Gen Product Posting Group for each Sales Account.

However if you are invoicing and selecting "G/L account"  on the Sales Lines this you can just enter the Sales Account directly onto the Invoice.

    Thanks

    Gavin

    Hi Nfrank,

    Thank you for posting.

Gavin provides great guidance.  In addition, you may look at creating a Dimension and related Dimension Values instead of 9 different Sales Accounts.  Post with a single Sales Revenue Account and then have the required Dimension and Dimension Values to manage the specific details of the Sales Revenue. This is just an alternative to setting up multiple General Product Posting Groups and multiple records in General Postng Setup to have different Sales Accounts.

    I hope this helps, too.

    Thanks

    Tom
