How to remove link between companies

Hi,

when I make a change to a project category in one entity it makes the same change in other entities.

They are linked, and I would like to manage each entity individually.

2 problems:

  1. When we release a project category to one of these entities, it is automatically released to all related entities
  2. When we change the Cost account on the project category in an entity, it makes the same change in all related entities.

I need to remove the link between them. Assist me on this. TIA.

Regards,

Ram

    Hello Ram,

Do you refer to the shared project categories or the company specific ones?

The shared categories are shared by definition across companies.

If you see that also company specific categories are shared then you might have enabled the virtual company functionality in the system admin module. Can you please double check that?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Yes it is using Virtual Company. How to restrict this for each company individually.

    Regards,

    Ram

    Hi Ram,

Removing virtual companies is quite easy, you basically have to remove them from your virtual company accounts.

A description can be found here: docs.microsoft.com/.../virtual-company-accounts-in-microsoft-dynamics-ax

Before doing that, have a chat with your colleagues because there might be dependencies e.g. in the way how you setup specific things and how your processes are design.

Therefore, don't simply try to make a change to your virtual company accounts because there must have been a reason why this feature has been setup.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Can we able to restrict for particular companies through code  without affecting that virtual company ?

    Regards,

    Ram

    Hi Ram,

What do you want to code and why?

If the underlying problem is related to your virtual entities than fix this setup rather than coding a workaround.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

RE: How to remove link between companies

    Hi Ram,

If you need to restrict it for some companies, then you can remove only these companies. However, we are not aware of many other tables are in the same table collection which also needs to be shared.

I would initially not go for a customization, and try to redesign the virtual companies. There might be of course a situation where your current setup is too complex. Then you can think of customizations, but that needs to be evaluated carefully. You can easily introduce performance issues as the category lookup is already quite complex, depending on all kind of links and validations.
