We really want to use SQL 2012. Has anyone tried to run GP 2013 utilities on a 10.0 databasewith the compatabilty mode set to SQL 2012? Did this fail?

I know this strategy was sucessful in older versions

RE: SQL Server 2012 Upgrade of Dynamics GP 10.0 to GP 2013

    Hello,

You can take your Dynamics GP 10.0 databases and put them onto a SQL Server 2012 environment in order to launch Dynamics GP 2013 Utilities against them in order to upgrade.

What you cannot do is launch Dynamics GP 10.0 against those databases on SQL Server 2012 as GP 10.0 is not compatible with SQL 2012.

However, if you are not on a version/build of Dynamics GP 10.0 that can directly upgrade to Dynamics GP 2013 and you have to go to a higher build of Dynamics GP 10.0 first, then you cannot move the databases over to SQL Server 2012 because Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities, at any build, will not work with SQL 2012.

You must be on 10.00.1779 or higher for Dynamics GP 10.0 to upgrade directly to Dynamics GP 2013 and SQL Server 2012.

    Thank you,

We did our upgrade this way.  the new live server has not seen sql 2005 or GP 10 installed on it at all.

Our Current production server is GP 10/SQL 2008 R2

We are going to do our upgrade on a new server which will become our new production server, after testing.

We want to be on SQL 2012. Can we just install GP 2013, and move the databases over and upgraded straight to 2013.. or do we have to install GP 10 first which would require us to use SQL 2008. We would prefer to not have to do that.

Is it possible to upgrade without installing 2008 R2 on the new server?: We have Scribe and some other 3rd party products Mekorma, Rockton  that will be impacted as well,

usually this is the succeeded approach

    1. If you have GP2010 and SQL 2008 R2
    2. Upgrade SQL 2008 to SQL 2012, first ( amx 2-3 hours)
    3. Upgrade GP2010 to GP2013 ( max 2-3 horus)
    4. It does not requries a longer then usual outage

I am testing and following the above sequesnce for the my planned upgarde and it works with no erros.

We are trying to upgarde, but we cannot do this in production because we cannot bring down the system for vey long. We want to start in a new environmebt with 2012 installed, and would prefer not to do the upgrade to sql 2012 after the fact.

Why not upgrade to 2013 and solve the problem?
