Dynamics GP 2013 Limited Users

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

Can someone please confirm the functionality available to limited users in GP 2013. My understanding is that they are read only, with limited write functionality (for their own information only, basically), that they cannot process transactions or access the database.

I have also heard that they are able to process transactions for third party products, similar to access that was available to ISV users in past versions. I can't see how this would be possible, but would like to know which is true.

Can anyone help with this question? Can limited users access third party products to process transactions or access the database?

Thank you

I have previously provided an over all report from a security perspective as related to what's permitted for a limited user in Dynamics GP, check it out on  Limited Users in Dynamics GP 2013 R2 – Security Insight

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

    Hello!

In GP 2013 R2 limited users are restricted to ONLY inquiry windows and reports, they cannot process transactions of any kind. Lance Koplin wrote a good blog on this and has links to a video and document resources in his blog.

As far as 3rd parties are concerned It would be a breach of EULA for them to allow a user to post transactions in GP 2013 R2 and beyond if the user is a limited user. What windows a limited user would have access to for a 3rd party module would be entirely up to the manufacturer however.

If you go to the security task setup window in GP 2013 R2 (Tools>Setup>System>Security Task) you'll see that there is a little exclamation symbol that appears by operations that a limited user can be assigned.

If you have any other questions please feel free to let me know!
