Posted on by Microsoft Employee

My SL 7.0 is setup with default 1999 Fiscal Year; how do I change it to current year (April 2012)?

    RE: Change Fiscal Period

    Hi Ramesh,

Did you end up pursuing the change of fiscal period? Did you encounter any unforeseen consequences? We are trying to modify a current fiscal year end of Sept to match a parent company's fiscal year end of Dec and I'm interested in understanding any challenges you may have experienced. Thanks in advance

    RE: Change Fiscal Period

Hello Rick, No issues I found a solution to it. Closed the year and opened a new Fiscal year with 4periods. This resolves my problem of starting a fresh again from JAN 2018 with 12 periods.

There are some third party utilities to do this if you have been running Dynamics SL under the old fiscal year.  One of those utilities is available from Plumbline Consulting and is called FY Update.  It performs all the necessary steps to change the fiscal year.  If you have not actually posted transactions in Dynamics SL yet then this utility does far more than is needed.  Be aware that this utility is not inexpensive ($3,500).  It is possible to make the changes using a series of SQL update statements but the difficultly increases depending on how many of the SL modules you are using.

Hello Carolyn, I need your expert advice. Our company financial period was from Sept - Aug. Recently it was decided to chang it to JAN - DEC. Currently we are in Aug 2016 period in MSD SL11. What is the best way to handle this change and Is that option available in the software.

    MSQ,

The demo database is automatically created with a default fiscal year of 1999.  You don't have a choice.  If you want to bring it up to a current year, you need to close the modules in the GL Closing screen.  It would be nice if the demo database would create with a current year, but so far it defaults to 1999.

It's a new install and the year is set to 1999 by default.

What the easiest way to change it or how is it setup with the current year by default?

    Hi MSQ,

You would need to go into GL Closing and close all the modules up to the current period.
