Number sequences reset when run out of digits

Hi there,

1.If a client has a number sequence of XYZ-0000001 and they let it run for years.

What happens when you get to XYZ-9999999? I cant imagine you need to add another digit on there.

2.Is there no way of having the FY in the sequence and then maybe resetting every year?

Thank you so much

You won't be able to create new records until you fix it.

Yes, it's up to you to fix it if you used a number of digits that isn't sufficient. Note that you can see warnings in LCS when you're running out of numbers; you shouldn't ignore them.

Regarding your last question, my blog post Year in number sequence might help you.

    Hi there Martin,

Thank you so much for this, will help a lot.

I just want to ask, if we put a sequence that is XXX-00000 and after 5 years it is XXX-99999.

Would we need to create a new sequence XXX-00000 for the next year. This in turn will have documents that have the same sequence number from year 1 and year 6?

Also, is there no way to reset sequences at the end of every financial year?

    Thank you.

Using the same format again is clearly a bad idea, because it would conflict with existing data. Either add extra digits or use a different prefix (e.g. XXY-#####).

Regarding the year, did you see the blog post? Do you mean that it doesn't work for you for some reason?

    Hi there,

    Understood, thank you.

I saw the blog post and I'm sure it will work for us, i need to get someone with experience with that to help me out.

    Thanks for all your help.
