Hi,

I am trying to create an entity for the table AXTts_Shipment, but it doesnt let me open the table on the designer and also when I try to go an create an entity, I cannot see it on the table source drop down. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Astrid

oh yes, I did that at the beginning. I can see the columns on the aot but I am not able to do anything with it, meaning creating an entity or adding the fields.

Whenever you use objects from other packages (for example Microsoft's or ISV) you must add reference from your package to that package. This is done in Visual Studio - Dynamics 365 - Model management - Update model parameters (or something like that, I don't have a system in front of me).

Your package can "see" only stuff that is referenced here (or exists in your package).

    Hi AstridMalanka,

Do you have reference in your model to the model where AXTts_Shipment is located?

That doesnt work as we dont get the fields from the source. I did try. How do I get the fields?

    Hi AstridMalanla,

You can create entity for ISV table (even without source code) by use data entity copy trick.

    1. Duplicate any standard entity to your project (the simpliest is better, for example SalesOrderOriginEntity)

    2. Remove all data source and add new one and select copy-paste table name to table property

    3. Drop needed field from data source to entity fields node

    4. Fix entity key

    5. Fix staging table name (new unique table name) and other properties on entity level

    6. Regenerate staging table though context menu on entity in designed mode.

    RE: AXTts_Shipment entity

It seems that you have some third party (ISV) solution in your system, because there is no table AXTts_Shipment in the standard application. It also seems that your ISV hasn't shipped you the source code (model), only binaries (deployable package). I assume you see the table in AOT in cursive font - this indicates that the source code / definition is not present.

You can't create data entity from a table without having the source / definition of the table. So you can either discuss with your ISV if they want to share the source code with you, or ask them to add such entity in their solution.
