How to print records directly from CRM in Unified Interface?

Posted on by 343

Hi,

We recently migrated our instances from legacy web interface to the new UCI. Everything is fine except the printing option which Microsoft has removed (don't know the reason behind). We are services company and daily we have to print 100+ job sheets (resource bookings) from the system. Since Microsoft has removed the printing feature, for now I have managed the printing for them by giving them the option to download the record in Word Template and then print from the word document. That's too much time consuming and if they print multiple files at once, the loose the order in which the job sheets were downloaded. So, it's very time consuming. I am stuck and unable to find any solution for this.

If anyone here can help or suggest something that we can directly do the printing directly from CRM without downloading and then manually printing?

Any advise of suggestion would be highly appreciable.

Thanks.

What happen for the above questions? Wouw, was it not available in 2020?
Normally in D365(2024) you can view the document for other layouts and print also. Print options is visible for most of the lay outs as far as I tested. (PO, SO confirmations, PO agreements, SO invoice) for CMR I can comment after some settings or testing periods.

    Hi Henry,

Yes, you are right. But till then at least we have a workaround for it. We are now using this option for some good 4 months time after moving to Unified Interface. And by then, I hope Microsoft will come up with some native option to fix the Print Preview option in the unified interface.

Is there any update you know on this?

Thank you Waleed for following up on this!

I want to be very transparent on this: your code is calling the /_forms/print/print.aspx page which uses the old legacy web client infrastructure.

When we're done transitioning all remaining dependencies off of the legacy web client (i.e. advanced settings, etc.), this infrastructure will be removed.
So your workaround, one day, could stop working without notice.

    Hi Henry,

I managed to get it to work with our new unified interface after doing some custom modifications. And the good thing is that it is still working after transitioning to the new unified interface. Please see my below article where I mentioned how to get the print preview in Unified Interface. Maybe you will find it helpful.

After reading, do let me know your thoughts and if it works for you or not? And sorry for sharing it a bit late.

    Regards,

    Waleed.

Thanks Henry for sharing the above information,

It has been a while since this Unified interface came. Still this feature basic feature is missing. Don't know what's taking it so long.

    Hello Waleed,

The Print Preview feature is indeed not available in Unified Interface.
You can upvote these community ideas to have it considered for a future wave:

Just like you, a lot of customers who were using the Print Preview feature have now adopted Word templates instead.
They render better for printing, can include custom formatting and be exported to PDF directly.

For more advanced and complex use cases (for example to generate a single Word of PDF document for multiple records from a grid - with back-to-back sheets), you can also consider reports:
