Global Search vs Look-up Search Create New Contact

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello guys,

I am new to Dynamics 365 so I have a question for you. I am using version: 9.1 online.

  • When i use global search, lets say for a contact name which is MALI it shows some records but,

  • I would like to create a new one, from that result page. So i click that '+' button to create a new contact.

  • It opens up the 'Quick Create: Contact' form and sets the NAME of the contact what is searched (MALI) for which is a great feature.

  • But when i am in the Main Account form and search a name (MALI) with a look-up field

  • While i am in the Main Account form, i click that + button to create a new Contact.

  • Again the 'Quick Create: Contact' pops up, but this time the name that i searched for ( MALI ) is placed in the field of Lastname.

What i would like to do is, when i search a contact in Main Account form and press + New button, the searched name should appear in the Name field. I can use any type of solution method.

P.S. : sorry for the inconsistent images, i had to translate them :/

Good catch Molley. I've never noticed this before. When you do this the contacts full name = the value that get thrown into the lastname field, e.g. Mali Molley becomes the full name and the first name stays empty. Could you not just split the name manually? If not add JavaScript to the on load event handler on the quick create form to populate the first name if the last name has a value.
