Shipment Location Specific Instructions

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Our company is looking for a way to flag certain sales orders that have California delivery addresses, so our warehouse staff know to include a Prop 65 warning label with those products.  We are trying to avoid having to include a label with every order we send out, as we only send to California very rarely.  Additionally, certain customers have multiple locations, so we are looking for a function that would work on a sales order level, instead of a customer level.

Are there any functions in Nav that could help us out with this situation?

    hi Matt,

In that direction, there is nothing out of the box.

You could create a Standard Text Code and then enter the text into the Sales Order manually.

    Details are outlined here: www.archerpoint.com/.../how-use-extended-text-feature-microsoft-dynamics-nav

Customization-wise, you could use Standard Text Codes as a basis and add setup field on the Customer-Page which would be checked everytime a new Sales Order is created.

Please note, that this text is printed on the Order Confirmation and Invoice.

Alternativly, picking up the suggestion from Teddy, you could duplicate your shipment methods and add "+P65" to the second entry. For example, "Prepay" and "Prepay+P65", "Customer Account" and "Customer Account+P65".

The best solution for you depends on your individual situation.

for example, do you plan to show other shipment instructions besides P65?

Do you want to print this (internal) information on an external document?

    Thanks for the reply Teddy,

We try to reserve our shipment method solely for things like prepay and add, customer accounts, freight allowed, etc.  What we're are looking for is a more automated way for Nav to alert our warehouse staff, such as automatically added a line item ( a prop 65 label) or shipment notes whenever our inside sales team generate a Sales Order.  Any way to streamline or automate the process.

We simply have to make it a part of specific work instructions for generating California based sales orders.

    Regards,

    Matt

    Thanks for the response Hannes.

I think we were looking for a way for Nav to do something along the lines of automatically adding a line item to the sales order, which would be a Prop 65 label, whenever we inputted a California shipment location.  Or automatically add shipment notes that request a prop 65 label.  Any way we could streamline or automate the process.  It seems we may have to specific work instructions when generating a Sales order to California.

    Regards,

    Matt

Depending on your setup, you can use the existing field such as Shipment Method to let your warehouse users know that they need to include the label.

    Hi,

In such situation, I normally created a new field in the Sales Order to enter delivery instructions for the Warehouse.

It depends on the documents which your warehouse does use to operate.
