Global Option Set import

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi everyone,

Is it possible to import a Global Option Set (from a csv list) with around 300 values?

I would like to import directly into a Global Option set. (Not local)

Would this be possible?

If possible, a detailed explanation of the process will be appreciated.

Thank you

    Hi Solago

I have an app with a feature for importing customisations in an excel file which should achieve what you are after

The installer for the app may be downloaded here github.com/.../latest

The article contains some brief details on the feature josephmcmac.wordpress.com/.../dynamics-365-customisation-importer

Basically the feature allows defining picklist options in an excel file which will import into either fields or shared option sets

    Hope this helps

    Hi Solago,

There is also a third party tool to manage the optionset. It's a pretty old tool so not sure if it will still work but worth trying- archive.codeplex.com

There is also a workaround mentioned in the below blog which you can try-

    Hope this helps.

Actually it was not possible to use the Lookup because this is for the address entity which is not possible to link to other entities as lookup.

Yes you need visual studio with SDK dll for that.

Is there any specific reason you are not using lookup instead of option set ? I am saying as if you use lookup you dont need to write any code , you can also import the records without code.

Have you tried Importing Global Option sets using a solution. You can add all the Global Options in a solution and import it to target environment.

Thank you guys, the code in this link seems to do what i need, but it is not straight forward for me. Should I use Visual Studio to run this code?

I am not a developer and would not want to play with code on my dev. environment.

I just need the following 2 things commented in the code:

/// Create a global option set.
/// Set the options for that option set.

Any detailed safe procedure to do this ?

I've fixed it - I really must get them to fix their url editor here as it does break working links.
