Richard is 100% correct, but I would like to add to his comments. Since you installed GP prior to installing SQL, I would assume GP was installed without creating a connection to SQL. This is also an important component to get GP to run properly. If you look in the documentation folder Richard referred to, you will find an installation manual for GP, which will walk you through the steps of creating an ODBC connection. This is what lets GP and SQL talk. You will also need to run GP Utilities and create databases. Be sure to go through the installation manual carefully and if there are any items in there you are not comfortable with, you may want to get some assistance.

SQL is what runs GP, without it GP cannot run. It sounds like what you did was to simply run the GP 2013 installation program without installing SQL. You will need download and install SQL Server 2012 Express. I would suggest the version with the Advanced Tools.  When you install SQL you will be prompted for the 'sa' password. Remember what you set it to as you will need it when you run GP utilities. If you look in your C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP 2013\Documentation subfolder you will find a GP Installation pdf. You may also need help installing SQL. When you install SQL when it ask you about Authentication methods choose Mixed Mode. That is where you will be prompted for the 'sa' password. The rest of the SQL installation is clicking the Next button. Make sure you at least install the SQL Database engine and the client tools.

    Cathie,

sa is the system administrator account. This account is setup when SQL Server (database) is installed. Did you install SQL or do you have a database administrator? They should have the password. If not, it can be reset in SQL, but it is something your IT person would typically do.
