What is an acceptable threshold for latency for GP?

Hi,

We have offices overseas in Australia, NZ, Europe, etc. We will be connecting them to our network directly by some means, not using Citrix anymore. What is the minimum latency requirement in milliseconds for GP? If someone in NZ is using the GP client against a database here in the US, will the application function normally if the delay for the transaction reaching the DB is 2 second, 5 seconds, etc? Will the record locking/concurrency checking work? Is there anything else we should consider?

Hello Helvi,

I would strongly recommend that you do not do this. GP is extremely "chatty" between the client and SQL server. Your best case scenario is that this will run extremely slow, but more than likely you are going to run into random errors and data integrity issues. This setup is not supported either so we would not be able to assist you with any problems you run into.

You must setup a terminal server for the users to log into and use, you do not have to use Citrix.
