GP 2010 to GP 2015 FRx conversion to Management Reporter

Posted on by 30

I have recently converted my Dynamics from 2010 to 2015.  The upgrade works flawlessly and now all users are on 2015.  I am now trying to upgrade FRx 6.7 to Management Reporter.  I have successfully installed Management Reporter CU13.  Everything appears to be working fine.  When I run the migration wizard, it fails at step 8.  saying, "Company XYZ FRx 6.7 segments are not available.  The company can't be mapped"

During the migration, documents said to delete all g32 files then open each company in FRx and then set as default.  My question is, how can I open up FRx when it is not supported in GP 2015?  SHould I of done the upgrade with GP 2010 to Management Reporter 2012 first before going to GP 2015?  What other areas should i be looking at to resolve the issue.

Thanks,

Trent

Have you tried accessing your GP 2015 via FRX6.7 (I know there is no support beyond GP 2010)  but its worth a try. You may get lucky adding an ODBC source to your newer GP 2015 instance.

    Hi dobetter,

It's definitely a problem to wait until you get to a version of GP that doesn't support an old software anymore to do the migration.

Everyone gets a little smarter after going thru this type of exercise... The reality is that not many will tell before :-)...

Yes, doing the FRx migration towards MR 2012 would definitely have been smoother while still running GP 2010, as you have the ability to still fire up FRx and do some validation / changes.

MR 2012 is by no means a perfect product yet (still after so many years..) and has its bugs and quirks. I've learned over the time that you always need to test before going to the next release, even with apparently small hot-fixes. In the doubt, stay with your old version until you can really make sure everything works as expected, or you can't live without a new feature.

My latest experience was about MR 2012 CU13 and the fact that it would not install on  a fresh maiden system... after several hours of battle, I gave up and grabbed to my old CU10 release which installed in a breeze and could then be upgraded to CU13... Mysteries of the deep data world.

Also, if you don't have that many GP companies, stick with the reliable Legacy connector for GP.. the DataMart (DM) has too many problems in my opinion and is not worth the switch in term of gains (as it is touted to be faster, but have not seen a significant difference). The DM could even become your host killer if your GP setup has several dozen companies...
