Scheduling for long-term projects

Posted on by 664

Hi All

I am pretty familiar with assignments and bookings but can't figure an efficient way to book a resource onto a project for several months (say 6) where the resource works just say Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday each week. I could use patterns but this is really cumbersome ane hence time-consuming and error prone. On top of that these bookings are often tentative initially and made before the project starts. If the start date is delayed, they have to be changed manually and this again is quite painful.

I assume others have similar issues. Has anyone found a good, more user-friendly way of doing this?

All help appreciated.

Specify pattern is really the only way to accomplish this. It's a lot of manual work though. For tentative bookings you could use the booking status of Proposed as soft bookings are not supported.

    Hi L.Dog,

I've not come across a more efficient way of carrying out your scenario. The only thing that may be able to help you is using then new schedule API's released in April this year.

If you are able to load in the exact resource booking that may be easier than trying to set up patterns etc..

You can also amend the resource assignments once loaded.
