Issue with additional comment lines disappearing

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I created additional line item comment lines in report writer to accommodate my needs. Everything works correctly / is displayed correctly when there is a single line item with description on the invoice... however, if my first line item has description and the 2nd line item does not, the description fields from the 1st line item disappear when I go to print my invoice. Strangely enough, they reappear if I type any character into the 2nd line items description. Typing in spaces in the 2nd line items comment line does not work, only typing characters does.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I followed this article to create my additional comment lines: https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/northamerica/GP/learning/documentation/how-to-articles/MSD_GPDisplayFourLineComment

    Open the Calculated Field named (c) Suppress Comment 1 and modify the conditional formula to include all of the three fields you now have in that section. Do this for each of the calculated fields you mentioned above.

    Hi Lesile,

    Thank you for the detailed response. I created 12 calculated line item comments in report writer and put 3 in each of the report sections I listed below. When I open the footer options for each of the 4 sections I am using, these are the settings:

    Field Calculated Field
    Comment 1 Break Field 3 (c) Suppress Comment 1
    Comment 2 Break Field 2 (c) Suppress Comment 2
    Component Footer Break Field 1 (c) Suppress Comment 3
    Comment 4 Component Sequence (c) Suppress Comment 4

    I am not following the 2nd part of your response where you start talking about modifying the expression. Could you elaborate?

    Hi,

    If you now have two comment lines per comment section, then this answer should apply. You need to go to Report Writer and select Tools > Section Options and then select the Comment 1 additional footer and open it. Look at the name of the calculated field indicated in the Footer Options. The Print When field Changes selection should be Break Field 3.

    Close the sections window and open the calculated field that was used to suppress the section (the one you found in the Footer Options). Modify the Expression such that it checks the existence of a value in EACH of the fields you put in that section. So your expression would look something like:

    F5Last LineComment1 = "" AND F5Last LineComment2 = ""

    TRUE Case = 0

    FALSE Case = 1

    Using these settings, the section will be suppressed only if both of the fields are blank. Repeat this for each of the 4 line comment sections.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Hi Justin,

    Thanks for the response. Display types are set to "last occurrence" on each of my calculated line comments. Can you elaborate on what you mean by making sure the footer has the correct break fields?

    This is the expression I used for my calculated fields:

    CalculatedField "LINE COMMENT1"
    {
    EvaluateAfter ""
    Expression "'RW_SOPLINECommentText'( 'SOP_LINE_CMT_WORK_HIST'.'SOP Type''SOP_LINE_CMT_WORK_HIST'.'SOP Number''SOP_LINE_CMT_WORK_HIST'.'Line Item Sequence''SOP_LINE_CMT_WORK_HIST'.'Component Sequence'80 1 ) "
    ResultType "String"
    }

    I am not having this problem when I use the default form.

    Hi CHH,

    If you print to the default invoice form, do the comments show as expected?  If so, then this at least points to the modified version of the form being the culprit.  You can then compare your modified version of the form with the default to see if there are any obvious issues.  I would check to make sure the field's Display Type is set correctly as per the default form, and the footer sections have the correct break field as per the default form).

    Thank you,

    Justin
