Dynamics GP 2018R2 Compatibility with SQL Server 2019 and Windows 2019

We have a client wanting to upgrade to the latest version of SQL Server and Windows Server, in this case 2019. I see on the specs that neither of these versions have compatibility in system requirements. Has anyone tried this yet with any success?

Like Tim said, this can cause issues more than just whether or not the databases can be restored and logged in to. Chances are, the databases would restore fine and you could log into GP.

However, GP Utilities performs hard version checks against the version of SQL, so if the version of GP that you're on doesn't have that version of GP hard coded as supported, then Utilities won't run and you won't be able to update without a SQL Downgrade of your databases, which is essentially scripting out every object, recreating all objects and databases on the old version of SQL, then DTSing all the data into it.

Beware running unsupported versions of SQL, should your client need to escalate support it may cause issues with support.  Also when Dex Utils runs it checks and finds an unsupported version of SQL then the client may have problems applying patches or creating new companies, should they need to, as the check will simply block utils from running.

So you can probably upgrade the SQL without GP's knowing about it, but may bite later.

On the other hand a future version of GP will probably support this version of SQL at that time they will be ok again.

    Tim.
