Hi there,
We are looking into the possibility of using Dynamics 365, Business Edition (a migration from QuickBooks/Intuit).
One of the most important core customizations we have on the more limited Intuit platform is a very simple form of inventory allocation/reservation.
Basically, we have a few custom attributes like "Packed" at the Sales Order line item level that allow us to assign quantities of inventory to a specific customer order (actually per line item).
Customer1.SalesOrder1.SalesOrderLineItem1.Ordered [15]
Customer1.SalesOrder1.SalesOrderLineItem1.Packed [14.75]
Customer2.SalesOrder1.SalesOrderLineItem1.Ordered [15]
Customer2.SalesOrder1.SalesOrderLineItem1.Packed [15.5]
This then allows us to do reporting such as:
Item.OnHand [60]
Item.Ordered [45]
Item.Available [15] // item.OnHand minus item.Ordered
Item.Packed [30.25] // SUM(SalesOrderLineItem.Packed)
Item.Stock [29.75] // item.OnHand minus item.Packed
And that also to create objects like so:
Item.CustomersWithItemOnSalesOrders
{
Customer1
SalesOrder1.SalesOrderLineItem1.Ordered [15]
SalesOrder1.SalesOrderLineItem1.Packed [14.75]
Customer2
SalesOrder1.SalesOrderLineItem1.Ordered [15]
SalesOrder1.SalesOrderLineItem1.Packed [15.5]
}
I guess the crux of my questions is:
Does Dynamics 365 for Financials, Business Edition support anything like this simple type of reservation without customization?
And if not:
1. Since the Intuit platform does not allow us to easily perform aggregate functions on a custom/extended item attribute efficiently (we do it forcefully but it is slow), does Dynamics 365 for Financials, Business Edition allow for that as an efficient aggregate query on a numeric extended attribute?
2. Is there some other avenue whereby Dynamics 365 for Financials, Business Edition may support this, like an event framework where a simple numeric extended attribute on the inventory item entity can be updated when a Sales Order line item is deleted/modified etc?
Thank you kindly.
