Global Optionset

Posted on by

Example: I have a requierement to create Car, Bike, Home, Mobile fields which datatype is a Option set. All this fields have same option set values as Interested, Not interested, Blank. So, should I create a global option set values and use it for all 4 fields. If I create this Global picklist and use it for all 4 fields I am not sure how this is going to save in the database for each  field. Any help in understanding how this stores in Database is highly appreciated.

Thanks

There's nothing wrong in doing what you have posted. its no where written that you cant use a global option set multiple times in the same entity. There should be any db related complications.

    Hi Sam,

I think it is better to create 4 different option sets for all the 4 fields instead of creating a global option set. Global option set is used in scenarios where the same option set is to be used in multiple entities.

You can create 4 global option set for all 4 fields and set values under each. Benefit of that is, you can use that option set in multiple entities. However you have also to create fields in each entity.

If you create single global option set, then you have to incorporate all values under single field which is not suitable way
