Custom Posted Sales Invoice No. Series

Hello Experts,

We are following the number sequence for Posted Sales Invoice is "2021-04-GE-1010". In this 2021 denoting the FY, 04 denoting the current Quarter of FY, GE the customer region, and the 1010 is the number which incrementing by one.

I need this Quarter portion of this sequence number should be auto changed based on the posting date when posting an invoice. It should be 01 for the 1st Quarter, 02 for 2nd like wise. How this can be achieved in Business Central?  Also the customer region part(GE in the sample mentioned) also be changed based on the customer address?

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts and time.

Regards,

Ranjith

The no. series management codeunit has a couple of events that are worth a review. I’d start with OnBeforeDoGetNextNo

I figure the behave should be triggered by a new field - in case other no. series need it in the future. I’d add that on the No. series line table

    Hi Josh,

    Thank you for your response.

It would be great help for me if you could elaborate this. Else share any reference link if having.

To be clear, Josh is stating that it will take a customization to get the number series to automatically change.

However, you could predefine the 4 number series that you want to use, at least the first 3 segments by giving the starting dates. Unfornately the 4 digit sequence at the end will not transfer.

Here's a question for you 'why are you doing this'? Every transaction carries the posting date field which you are basically duplicating in the document number....I'm sure you know this. Since there is a Territory field on the customer card, you could also use that for your region and now you are left with a much smaller invoice number.  Just food for thought.

    Hi Kim Dallefeld,

You are absolutely right that transaction carries the relevant information. But customer is demanding for mentioned sequence number format.

    Thanks for your response.
