Microsofter's:
I haven't time for a long explanation, so I'll copy in the text I sent to one of my clients via email. They were getting an error message when adding an item to a P.O. The error text was "The length of the string is 16, but it must be less than or equal to 10 characters. Value: PASSIVE DAS COMP"
Email text:
I believe the problem is not the length of the item. The problem is actually caused by the length of the “Item Category Code” assigned to the item. This item category code is “PASSIVE DAS COMP”. If we shorten this to 10 characters or less, I think the problem will disappear.
I entered this same item (i.e.“CA-C1001-727-LP”) with the same item category (i.e. "PASSIVE DAS COMP") in your Cronus test tenant. I got the same error you received in your production tenant. I shortened “PASSIVE DAS COMP” to “P DAS COMP”, and no longer got the error in Cronus.
Oddly enough, I also entered “CA-C1001-727-LP” in my Cronus test tenant. “PASSIVE DAS COMP” didn’t give me an error. Why your tenant and not mine? I don’t really know, but I believe your tenant is slightly newer than mine. I can see where you have two sections on your item card (i.e. “Planning” and “Warehouse”) that I don’t yet have. Perhaps Microsoft broke something in their newest release. I’ll let Microsoft know about this. In the meantime, you should consider abbreviating your item category codes.
Thanks,
