Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Archived)

Change search to wildcard by default

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Dear forum members,

we are currently setting up NAV2016.

There's an issue we have:

To enter customer I search by "Name".

The issue is I cannot find entries if I don't search by the exact terms.

If I search with *sto* it works.

How can I change the search to be automatically "wildcarded"?

Normally, when you enter the first letters, it would work as a wildcard to offer needed values. If you would just enter some sequence from the middle, you need to use * symbols. AFAIK, there is no easy solution for changing the search engine properties.

Saying that you can create your own search tool within Dynamics NAV, but I don't know how much practical will it be.

As I know you cannot modify the search option in NAV. Only thing you can do is suggest Microsoft to include this in the next release. I am sure many people will vote for the idea.

    Too bad!

Any idea how hard this could be to integrate?

I dont feel there is a default option for that on drop down List. Its available on pages as quick filter.

    Thanks all for the answers.

I know how to search with wildcards ( *sto* would give me the results I'm looking for).

The issue is that we want to be able to search by just entering "sto" .

Kindly check the search description data for searching the details using wildcards.

This field is available in customer master.

Check your Search Field data, it may be space in beginning.

Sometimes the search is case sensitive. Try searching by the following mask:

    @"name"

Check also these few posts related to search criteria in filters:
