Navision cloud

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi

I would like to know the Navision cloud benefits, does Navision cloud do:

1) pay a yearly subscription fee and we do not need to pay brep anymore?
2) Do we need to pay any cloud services like azure or aws to run this?

Thanks.

It depends what cloud you are talking about. If you talk about Azure or some other local dataceter cloud, than you would treat you solution the same manner as you would do on-premise customizations. You would have limitations to customize "standard" Dynamics 365 cloud version, provided by Microsoft: you could modify it only through Extensions. If you are talking about the Dynamics NAV on Azure then the points you mention are not valid (according to my understanding) . ANy cusomization you do in the NAV database will be affect to all the users who are in that DB., There is no different even if you use the NAV on Azure.

On the second point, if your DB is in the Azure SQL as a service that also does not reflect any issue, because u can download the DB and host it on your server.

    Thanks for the reply.

I found out that Navision cloud ahs 2 disadvantages:

    1. It is difficult to customize as it affect everyone

    2. It will be difficult to get back the data if at later stage you want to setup Navision om premises again.

Actually, there are two separate issues in this topic which are usually mixed: cloud (subscription) licenses and cloud location of the system.

The most interesting thing is that wherever the database is located - in a cloud or on-premise - you still can use subscription licensing method for NAV, introduced not so long ago. This means that you will pay (monthly) subscription fee and will be able to use all the newest versions of the software, regardless where they are located (no BREPs). This also means that you can very easy regulate the quantity of the licenses: if you have seasonal (or crisis) shrink of your users, you can consequently diminish the monthly payments, starting from next month, and increase them back when things go well and you get more stuff.

The other thing is where your database is located. It can be pure Microsoft Azure with all the benefits and costs of that, it can be some Azure Pack, ported to your country, or it can be some third party datacenter. Whatever licensing method you use, you can put your database either to one of those clouds or use it on-premise.

Then, project Madeira has been recently introduced, as a full SAAS model for small business, but it has yet very limited functionality and most likely it is not your solution so far.

Thus, answering your question - you might not necessarily pay Azure fees when using subscription licensing for NAV.

    RE: Navision cloud

You have several options and all those depend on your requirement.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV can be deployed to a cloud server and access from anywhere, in that case you need to pay for a cloud service like Azure to run this.

Recently Microsoft has released a new solution call "Project Madeira”, and it is still under testing stage. If the Madeira is live and running you will only have to pay for what you use and no need to worry about the servers and hosting. It is more like CRM Online solution.
