RMS HQ VisaNet data

Posted on by

We have 50+ stores and use HQ to manage them. We've noticed that the VisaNetAuhtorization and VisaNetBatch tables get updated at the HQ database from the stores during the 401 worksheet sync. HQ doesn't do any credit processing, so why does this data need to go there? If we create a trigger to delete the data, will that break other transaction data?

Heard of it, but never used it.  If you connect via a VPN, you shouldn't have any problems.  If not, check with them for their security recommendations.

I should mention, we use RTI from Sysrepublic to sync our stores on the fly. We do not use the HQ Client or HQ Server.

That should be HQ Client->HQ Server->HQ Client.

If one uses HQ Manager at a different location then the HQ Server, then that communication is not encrypted unless through a VPN.

If the PCI council says its OK, should be for you to.  They have the regulations that MS must follow otherwise one couldn't use RMS for card processing.

Remember that all Store->HQ->Store communications through HQ are encrypted too.

We are on 2.0.1004. The data does appear to be encrypted. Still, if it wasn't there at all I would feel more secure.

The only info that stored that is not encrypted is the last 4 numbers of the card, assuming you are using a current version of RMS, mid - 1.3 or later as I remember.

    What version are you running?

We are concerned about credit card security. Why move that data over the wan to HQ for it to just sit there as a big target? We do regular backups of our store databases so there is no need to recreate from HQ if something crashed. We aren't trying to fix it, we are trying to eliminate risk.

Because everything is uploaded from the stores to HQ. A store can be recreated from HQ if needed.

The stores are more likely to run out of space than HQ is, so HQ is a storage facility for them.  I would leave things as they are as I really doubt those tables are using much space anyway. Why "fix" what's working?
