Only One Setting for Change Log -- But Showing Other Entries

Hi:

In a Sandbox, I configured Business Central's Change Log to only show the modification of data in one text field of one screen.

When I run the Change Log report, however, it's showing many entries and from the past.

Why?  Is there a way of preventing it from tracking what I didn't ask for?

Thanks!

John

If you set it up like the one below, there shouldn't be any problems.
If you want to delete records, you can manage it in the Retention Policy.

    Thanks.

There are some things that the Change Log tracks automatically before you configure anything, such as activation and changes to the Change Log Setup. What is the table number of the entries that you are seeing that were there before?

    Hii There,
as per requirement there is setup for change log through that all changes were recorded. so if you want to check the specific fields only you can update setup like @YUN ZHU suggested .

if you found answer , mark it answered.

    Thank You.

    Hello John,
Yes that’s expected. Change Log setup only controls what gets logged from now on; it does not remove old entries that were already written, and Business Central also always logs some system tables (like users, permissions, and change log setup itself), so you can still see entries you didn’t explicitly ask for. Also, after changing Change Log setup, the new behavior only shows up after the user session is restarted. So if you want to “prevent” extra history, you really have two options: filter the Change Log Entries/report to your table/field/date, and/or clean up old entries with a retention policy; but you cannot turn off logging for those always-tracked system tables.
