I modified a Word template and set it as default but I'm not seeing my modified version when it's printed. It was not a GP modified report. I started with the Original report. Why am I not seeing my changes?

Just to add to this a bit on the "why" you experienced this. The fields that you see under the developer tab are linked in from the Report Writer layout. For a text change, you can just type in. For anything else, you would probably need to use a modified version and add your updated xml.
The Word templates and Report Writer do work hand in hand.

I do not have any other restrictions on the Word template. This new template is the default and it's assigned to all customers. I've added it and saved it many times. I don't know what else I could be missing but I've tried doing this in three different GP installs and I still don't see the changes on my New template.

If you wanted to modified existing report you can do the same. Please refer the following from BKD which explains in detail how to do this.

You do not need to start with a Modified GP Report.
Do you have any other restrictions on the Word Template? It may be that a different template is assigned to a specific customer or company.
You can try the Add button again. Select the Word Template that you saved to a file and add it over top of the existing template.
