Delete a recent created entity

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

I just created a new customized entity and figured out I had to change a couple of things. I went into Settings>Customize the System>Entities and then checked the entity and pressed Delete and published all customizations. I am now trying to create an entity with the same name and receive an SQL Server Error when I am pressing save and the entity is supposed to get created. Am I missing something here? Is there anything else I have to delete in order to be able to create a new entity with the same name?

Any help is highly appreciated, thank you!

/Isabell

RE: Delete a recent created entity

    Hi,

Thanks again for responding! I might not have been clear. But when you talk about the CRM Server this makes me a bit confused.. I don't have CRM on a server but in the cloud, is that the same as CRM online? Sorry if this is a stupid question or if I should have said it from the beginning. But I was not with the company when CRM was set up and those people have left. Is there any way I can sort this out, maybe in the Admin Center?

Once again, thank you for helping me out!

    /Isabell

    Hi Isabell,

if this is not a production server and if everyone in your organization is aware of a downtime you could try to reboot the CRM server. So either you or the system admin of this machine should plan to reboot the machine. Then afterwards check if problem is resolved.

If not working you can use more detailed tracing on the CRM server.

    Activate tracing as described here:

    sveroa.com/.../enable-dynamics-crm-tracing-with-powershell

Then try to create the entity with same name again to reproduce error.

Then stop tracing as described in link above.

Finally check with the trace reader tool if you can find more detailed error logs:

    Cheers,

    Andreas

    Hi Isabell,

To do this, you need to Remote Desktop to your CRM server, open up the services screen (type services.msc). IIS is the "World Wide Web Publishing Service". You could also type IISreset but there are other services you should restart as well - a few Microsoft services - both Async services and the sandbox service.

You should process with caution though, these will make your CRM organization temporarily unavailable (you're basically restarting CRM).

Hope this helps! I'd appreciate if you'd mark this as Answering your question.

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    Hi Andreas,

Thanks for your response. I could try but I am not sure how to do this. I have googled it and I can't seem to find CRM in my IIS Manager, does this tell me anything?

I solved the problem with creating the entity with another name, but I would still like to know what the problem is and how to get rid of it if you have any suggestions. Thank you!

When working on-premise can you try do make an IISReset on the CRM Server and try it again?

    Hi,

You followed all the correct steps - Delete, publish, recreate. Could you share the specific error message you're getting (you can hit Download Log file to see more details).

    Thanks,

     Aiden
