Signing ISV solution by certificate

Hi community,

I want to ask you about your experience with signing your ISV by certificate with this approach: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/dev-itpro/dev-tools/isv-licensing

We are facing issue, when we still get an error that says 'The certificate associated with licence /licencename/ is not a trusted certificate.' But we are 100% sure that it is. We use it also in other solution development and never have any issue with it. Root CA of our signing certificate is Microsoft supported.

*.cer is generated from our signing *.pfx only with public key and this certificate we put in resources of our solution.

Any ideas what we are doing wrong?

    Hi Marek,

    Is this a code signing certificate acquired by a public certificate authority? Or did you try to create a self-signed certificate? Ensure you have one from a public CA and not a wildcard certificate.

    Hi André,

    it is a public certificate authority (Thawte - MS supported I hope). With self-signed certificate, created by steps in manual, it worked fine.

    Hi Marek,

    A self signed certificate is only possible for development/testing purposes. You should indeed be able to use your other certificate. The certificate is not expired? Otherwise, try to contact Microsoft Support for help.

    Hi André,

    thank you for your time.  We already have support ticket opened. Certificate is valid till 2019. Maybe we do something wrong in steps in manual.

    Will let you know, if MS give us any deeper insight.

    I have worked on solutions where we implemented ISV licensing as described on docs. It works very fine.

    We however had a support case because our non-expired certificates was reported as being expired. With help from support we finally got to the conclusion that the Microsoft code checking the certificate was using some obsolete methods from .NET. This will be fixed, but I don't know when.

    thank you for your post. May I ask, how you find out that your non-expired certificates was reported as expired? Can we somehow check it by ourselves?

    I'm not sure I remember correctly. But I think we saw it in the eventlog on some environments where we had access to see it.

    Hi all,

    I just want to inform you what the problem was. When you prepating your .CER (Public) from .PFX (Private), you need to export this certificate as Binary X.509. Do not use X.509 Base-64. This one will not work for signing.

    Hope it helps if you run to signing problem.
