Make General Journal Lines non-updatable during approval

Hi Team

My client uses BC cloud and wants to make the General Journal lines cannot get updated during General Journal Batch approval. I believe this is not supported by BC standard and requires customization.

I am thinking to throw an error when key fields are updated but found the below challenges to define the condition of logic...can you suggest me ideas?

-  General Journal Batch or Line does not have 'Approval Status'.

- The existance of restricted record does not work because a reastricted record is created immeidately when General Journal line is inserted, even before request for approval.

-  It may validate the existance of a "Open" staus record in the Approval Entry table (454). But the table does not really have a clear field to identify the General Journal batch...maybe "Record ID" but it value is not statistic.

Please give me advice.

Create a codeunit with an event subscriber to the approval management codeunit. It has integration events for the approval of a journal batch or line. I would then have a Boolean on the batch (Or line level) to determine if it can be editable or not. You’ll need to do a page extension and modify the properties of various fields or something similar

    Hi Josh

Thanks for your reply and advice.

I can understand to make a boolean field in the batch or general journal line and handle field properties in the page extension. But still I cannot see how a new CU with an event subscriber works and how the boolean field get checked/unchecked. Could you give me more detail idea?

The main code for approvals sits in the approval management CU. If that code gets hit then the event triggers and by subscribing your code will run. The parameters of the codeunit include the main record so you have the batch or line in context of the scenario. All you have to do is add code to set the new value of a field at batch or line level. Code example can be seen on MS Docs: docs.microsoft.com/.../devenv-subscribing-to-events

Josh> Thanks for your reply. Now I can get the clear picture and will try the way.
