Error: Invalid data - Customer issue

We are trying to send a quote and receiving the following error:

ca.error.PNG

It is specific to the customer and I cannot figure out why. I thought maybe it was because they are in Canada, but that does not seem to be the issue.

I've tested--

Items-Different customer in US, same exact quote (no error)

Country-Different customer in CA, same exact quote (no error)

Confirmed email address

Confirmed Contact card in CRM

Customer-New quote, same customer, (error)

We found this online: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd338605(v=nav.71).aspx

But I don't think it has anything to do with length in any fields in the contact or customer that I am aware of because we've sent out many quotes and invoices to other customers with no issues.

Anyone else come across this error, or have any input?

Thanks!

    Hi Christine,

We haven't seen this error before. Can you provide a little more detail on the issue? I assume you are using the web client for Dynamics 365 for Financials? Does the error occur right when you click Send on the quote?

You mentioned that it may not be related to field length because other customers work without issue, and is specific to this customer. The article you referenced shows that this error can occur in the code if the data passed into the field is greater than what is expected by the code. Can you let us know the length of the customer name, contact name, address, and email address?

Is there anything else unique to this customer that is getting the error (e.g., tax area code, payment terms code)?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jared,

    Yes, Dynamics 365 for Financials.

Yes, error occurs when we click Send on the quote.

We have created other quotes on the same account/customer as a test and receive the same error regardless of data entered.

Customer name is hyphenated. Thought maybe that was the issue, but tested another account with a hyphen and no issue.

I just looked at it again and the hyphen was an em-dash instead of an en-dash, so I changed it to an en-dash in both CRM and Financials and updated the Customer Name in the Quote and it now seems to work. I guess it just didn't like my em-dash.

Thanks for getting me to take another look at it.

Thanks for the follow up, Christine. We'll take a look at how the em dash is being handled in the code, and see what needs to be fixed on our end, but I'm glad to hear you got the issue resolved by switching it to an en dash.

    Thanks!

    Jared
