can begin or end quantity on a discount be modified?

I know it's not a privilege issue as I being an admin get the same error as the user did.

On an existing discount I tried changing the amount and had success. However, if we try to change quantity range we are refused. It's not a matter of trying to create overlap because it is the only discount in the discount list.

The error looks like something unhandled -- it comes with no header and starts at "at..."

I tried to compare field attributes in the metadata browser. Other than the types any difference is escaping me.
