Create Purchase Order for non-stock item without creating a sales order

Hi, we have a third party that manufactures our products.  We carry no inventory for the items that we sell.  We want to be able to create a PO to our manufacturer for these items without creating a sales order.  How do we set up the item and process to accomplish this.  We have been trying and failing at this.

Thanks

    Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry, it doesn't look like there is a way to accomplish this without create a sales order.

Please consider entering this request as a product suggestion at the following link:

At this time the steps for drop-shipments are the following: docs.microsoft.com/.../sales-how-drop-shipment

    Hello,

Would be interesting to know more about scenario.

Why do think that you need these items as "non-stock"?

You mentioned that 3rd party produces your products.

What happens next? Who owns produced products? Are they still stored on manufacturer site? How is product shipped to customers?

My first guess would be to have a separate location for 3rd party. You create purchase order for normal items and choose that separate location.

Once product is produced you can post receipt. Now you have overview of produced products and can ship them from that location.

    Thanks

The non-stock feature was just a method as we do not carry inventory on product.  It is just in time.  We technically own items the minute its shipped from our manufacturer.  Everything is stored at our manufacturer.  The items are shipped to our facility, we break bulk it, individually box the orders then shipped out.

Looks as a normal buy-sell process to me
    1. create normal item.
    2. create purchase order.
    3. once item is shipped from manufacturer, post Receipt
    4. ship items to your customers

You mentioned that you do not carry inventory. But what happens if something left?
