Security Role regarding the General Journal Creation & Posting

Hi Community,

Please look into the below scenario and let me know if this can be achieved in D365.

We have two users 'X' & 'Y'. X creates a General Journal, but he should not post it (The system should restrict X from posting any journal created by him/her). Y can post the journal. Similarly, Y creates a journal, but should not post the journal, but X can.

Hi Sourav,

This scenario is not covered out of the box. You can consider implementing an approval workflow or a customization to achieve this requirement.

Hi,

You can restrict the way that a role cannot approve workflows created by him by creating an approval flow. You can refer to this document: Create workflows overview - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn.

Or I think you can customize a role that can't post the journals created by himself and then assign that role to different users.

The statement done by Kevin that it can be solved with a security role is incorrect. With security roles, duties and privileges, you grant permissions to create journals, post journals or both. The menu items granted are not aware who created the journal. If a user has both permissions, they can create and post, regardless of who created the journal, so also their own.

Probably, you can extend the journal post validation logic to check if the user trying to post was also the one who created the journal and the lines.
