Multiple Scroll windows in dexterity; Can youchange the focus from one to the other?

HI. We have a form that contains two scrolling windows. The top one represents header records, the bottom is detail lines for each header record in the top scrolling window.

We have a requirement that the flow should be. A user is entering a line in the header scrolling window, when they finish the line , They'd like the next tab to take them to the first line of the detail scrolling window where they will continue to enter all the detail lines associated with the header line. When dome with the detail they would click into the header line to enter another one and the process would continue. Or they would exit the form.

Is there a way to accomplish this, or are we left with either having them specifically  click into the second scrolling window to start the detail, or coming up with a different design.

What they like about this design is that they can scroll from one line to the other in the header scrolling window, while the detail scrolling window updates to show all the detail for the current header record. They also like that they can see all the header records at once.

    Erick,

With this setup, they wouldn't be able to tab through the header records because when they would get to the end of the header row it would bounce down to the lower scrolling window.  Are they wanting some logic in there that would only switch to the lower one if the next header line is blank?

    Hi Leslie,

Yes that would be the scenario. Basically they are adding a new header record and want to just continue to the details section for that one header. If they are updating a previous one, they would have to click the header row first, which shows the detail, then go down to the lower one to edit or add lines there.

So yes they'd like it to go down to the lower one only when the next line is blank.

    OK,
In order to do this you would need to determine if they are entering a new 'header' record. If it is, in fact, a new record you would move focus to the lower scrolling window as part of the line change script.  If they are not adding a new header record, focus would move down to the next header record. Does that work for you? Another consideration is if you want it only to go to the lower scrolling window only if it's a new header record, or do you want it to go to the lower window if an existing header record doesn't have any lines.
    Kind regards,
    Leslie

That is a good question about moving the focus if there is no lines. A scenario may come up where they save the header lines and don't get to the detail lines till they open another session or someone else does it for them. Given that scenario, I think your suggestion of checking if there are no detail lines and if so then switch to the lower scrolling window is a good one and would cover most scenarios. Is doing that different than what you explained in the first part above?

    Hi Eric,

There shouldn't be any difference. The only difference is the logic that runs in your line change script.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
