Create sales orders and sales invoices wtih dollar tax amount through API

I'm currently importing records into Business Central via the API, and need to be able to import the sales tax amount calculated at the time and date of the original order. This is coming from multiple systems using different tax engines. It's functionally impossible to set up custom tax codes for every single order, and using an external service essentially doubles our cost (as we are already making the API calls to calculate sales tax on checkout). What is the recommended way to manually add sales tax to a sales order and sales invoice? Additionally, what is the proper way to post those Sales Orders or Sales Invoices through the Business Central API?

You didn't figure this out did you?

There's no way to do it from the default API. I had to create an extension with a new Sales Tax Field and import it separately. To do this it makes brand new tax groups based on the $ value of the sales tax. Afterwards, the default calculations work correctly.

Thanks for the reply! I actually ended up deciding that’s what I had to do as well! This is kindof an oversight I feel

Yea, it's either that or pay a second time for an Avalara API call with their Business Central Extension, and that's not really a great solution.

I am in the same situation currently. Has this been changed, or is the extension still the necessary way to go?

Any guidance, or other assistance you are willing to share so I don't need to reinvent the wheel?

    Hello,

Not knowing where your imports are coming from there are multiple APP's that do connect to 3rd party software packages. In addition, you might consider Dynamic Data Exchange which could solve what you are looking for. You can setup the Header and Lines and as it relates to Sales Tax. Check out this link:

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve
