Revenue Estimates Posting Error on Blank Department Dimension from a historical Transaction..??

When We are trying to post the estimates on a specific project we get the below error

"You must select a value in the department field in combination with the following dimensions values that are valid"

This happens so randomly and we nailed it down to the issue that if the project has transactions with blank department dimension value, this error is triggered while posting the estimates. The blank dimension transaction can be one that is from 2017. How can we overcome this error..? Has anyone faced this..?

Hi Mona19,

I don't think that this is a problem with AX or Microsoft but an issue how your setup your financial dimensions and account structures.

There are certain rules and hierarchies that you need to take into account when working with findims and if those rules are not followed you experience things as you currently do.

I would recommend to talk with your finance people for which accounts they need this department findim and would like to ask you to double check whether the current configuration correctly inherits those findims.

I believe that this is the major underlying issue here.

Appreciate your reply.

But, is this a Microsoft behavior..? Do we have any hotfix for it..? It is so strange that it refer backs to 2017 transaction..?

for now, we are opening the COA to allow the department value to be null, posting the estimates and turn it back on.

And it becomes a cumbersome process to do it every month for those specific projects.

Hi,

A one time workaround is going to the CoA and setting up a fixed financial department dimension for the accounts used when posting the estimate.

This should of course not be used all the time but it a kind of tool 'of last resort' to get this transaction posted.
