HI: You have made my first experience with the forum a great one. I COPIED OVER THE EXISTING gp DIRECTORY AND IT WORKED FINE. Thankyou for your most appreciated help.

Go to the About window and check the build number of the client. Compare that to the build number of the server. The builds have to match.

    Re: Installation of client

    Hi Jack,

The error you were getting refers to a mismatch between the installed versions of the products from this user's machine to the ones on being compared to in the DU000020 table from the Dynamics database.

From the same error, it would typically ask you to review the GP_loginErrors.log file which is in your temp folder (from the Run command go to %temp%) on the local machine. In the file you will see which product encountered the mismatch.

If you can access Knowledgebase, a good read on this topic would be:

    • KB 915897 - Error message when you start Microsoft Dynamics GP on a client workstation: "A product on the computer is on a different version than the database version"
    • KB 920831 - Information about version numbers and build numbers of Dexterity in Microsoft Dynamics GP

You can review KB 915897 on some fixes available for this issue.

However, if you do have another machine with a working Great Plains install, you can just copy over the GP folder from that machine to this one, and it should work. Note, if the path in the Dynamics.set file is different for the dictionary files (install path) between the machines, you would need to update the Dynamics.set file after copying.

    Hope that helps.
