We want to start sending our A/R statements to customers via e-mail, vs. sending paper statements via US postal service each month.
Does anyone know if there are any formal consent rules regarding this? Is it sufficient for the customer to simply reply to an email inquiry indicating whether or not they'd like their statements via e-mail and, if yes, providing the e-mail address? Or, is something more /official/ needed?
This is not a document governed by anyone, so I'm not sure if any consent is even required; but, to ensure that the statements get delivered to the intended recipient, I will ask for each customer to opt-in.
