For what processes do they need to print bar codes? Item labels, retail shelf labels, warehouse labels, packing slip?

Item labels for asset management ,So that each asset or inventory item has a label with a barcode on it.

There are various ways to achieve your requirement. You can create an SSRS report or build something like the Document routing layouts in warehouse management. Another option is using the barcode font support with electronic reports.
