When we tried to modify an old sales order (entered in last fiscal year) in current period, somehow, GP back dated to the date when sales order was originally created date. Is this because we didn't close the period in sales module?

I ask the same question as Frank, do you mean the doc date went back to the prior year or the positng date? Closing the year in AR would have no impact on the date in the document. I think you changed the doc date but did not change the posting date.
What do you mean 'backdated to the original created date'? What backdated?
