Account Categorization for Reporting

Hi there,

I am new to Business Central so this might be something very simple for you to help answer please. I want to connect my BC to Power BI and create financial reports.

To create these reports I need each Account Code categorized differently in accordance to the type of report they are used in  (P&L, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet etc.)

Chart of Accounts allows for Category and Subcategory to be defined for each Account Code, which caters for Income Statement and Balance Sheet categorization, which means I cannot reuse Category and Subcategory again and therefore need an additional 3-4 more columns/ fields  (maybe more, depending on the number of reports are to be created) to categorize each Account Code.

Example:

Account code         Category                        Subcategory                UserDefinedCategory1             UserDefinedCategory1.1                                                     UserDefinedCategory2                UserDefinedCategory2.1

1000                        Income Statement         Income                       CashFlow                                      Income from sales of Goods and Services                    Ownership                                       Current Retained Earnings

Can these additional columns/ fields be added to each Account under Chart of Account somehow? or maybe it can be done using Account Schedules?

Appreciate any help you can offer, thank you.

Nick

You can use table extension and page extension to add additional fields to G/L Account table.

It should be easy enough to do that.
