PLEASE - Need Help With Restriction functions

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

When I set up a new Item I use the Generic Description field as a "group" identifier, 1 thru 9

I want to use this field in a Report Writer report.  I go to restrictions and make a new one calling it Group 1

I choose Report Table-  Item Master and Table Field Item Generic Descrition - Operator = - Constant 1 .

I run the report and get "Incompatible Operand.

I do not understand WHY.

FYI:  I took an un-modified  System Report (IV Item Price List) and attempted to modify it.  I came us with the SAME error message requesting D02441U Of M when trying to restrict on the Item Generic Description field

Understood. I'll try and create a report from scratch and see what happens. It should be fine. Your error must be to do with some logic in the original report that is now broken.

    Update asap.

I added the above as a String the the = sign and a string again.  Got the same message.

I changed it to D02441U Of M and got the error message again.

I do not remember what the orig report was, sorry

The string is in the message GP produced. Your restriction needs to read:

    'D02441U O M' = 'D02441U O M'

    Which report did you modify?

    I modified a report.

Where do I find the string that it is looking for?

    Hi,

For cost of SLB, you would need to talk to your GP Partner (or PM me!)

To add another restriction, do the same as you did above. The first restriction is now sorted, this is a completely different issue.

When you add the one GP is looking for (just add two string constants with an '=' between them) and run the report, you might get another restriction to add - if so, there is something wrong with the structure of the report. Did you create a new report from scratch, or modify an existing one?

Re: PLEASE - Need Help With Restriction functions

I do not have Smarrt List Builder - Did look at it - Was verrry interesting.  What is the cost?

Northing in Smart List at this time have what I need,  I want my inventory by group (Item Generic Description Field) listing the List price from the Item Master (as I cannot pull up the Price Level fron the Price level field.

    Version 11.000.1524

HOW do I add "another" restriction ?  Is it the this same one or a seperate one?

Understood. Add the restriction GP is prompting for and see what happens.

I've seen this behaviour before. Better minds than me will be able to explain...

What version of GP are you on? Could you use a smartlis to get the info you need, or SSRS?

    Do you hae smartlist builder?

Re: PLEASE - Need Help With Restriction functions

Expression with and integer (1) gives me incompatable operands

    Expression with a string "1" gives me Incinsistent restriction/soort expression.  Please add the following restriction 'D02441U O M = D02441U O M'.

Re: PLEASE - Need Help With Restriction functions

In your restriction...is the constant surrounded by single quotation marks?

If not, remove it, change the constant type to 'STRING' and re-enter the constant value.

If it has quotation marks, then remove it and add it as an integer.

But...I believe it should be a string value.
