Yes. The approach would be exactly the same as shown in the screenshot. Here I have shown for Item No., instead you have to select Item Category or Sub category for applying filter. The Object Id (27 in our case) on which i would be performing this is not gonna change. It would be same.
If I would to set in under Item cat or sub cat or product group. do I still go the same way in permission set? Can U also show the screen shot on how to apply that?
It can be a particular item or a group of items
As a matter of fact you can. You have to use the Security Filter option in the Permission Set (assigned to your target user). It simply filters out the record and hence user cant access the record.
As shown below I have applied the security filter which will show me all Items on the Item Card except Item No:00000000010000000001.
Though, you can apply multiple values for filtration here (in our case lets say multiple item no.). But, it's obviously not the optimized way to put filter item wise. Rather you should group your items together into Item Category/Subcategory or Product Group and then apply security filter for these instead of Item No.
