HP has an Elite Pad that runs Windows 8 Pro and has a full POS Peripheral Docking Station that includes Printer/Cash Drawer/Scanner and CC Swipe. They also have a Retail Sleeve that ads CC and Scanner Functionality to the Tablet for mobile use. Should be available August 2013.
One thing to add to Ed's comment. There are a few tutorials out there on how to hack the Surface RT to run full Windows Apps. DON'T do this for RMS. First it is very much so not supported and my void any support you could get from Microsoft if things don't work. But the real reason is that the Surface RT is running an ATOM processor and is fairly light on RAM. Neither of which is a good thing for RMS. Even if the price point is more desirable, the end result will not be something most retailer can live with.
All I can say is be patient. Windows tablet hardware will get better and come down in price with time.
If you get the Pro version with a full windows 8 PRO. Then you should be able to run a pos lane on it but I wouldn't run the database on it and also make sure you wireless is solid and has a strong signal.
Also don't expect to hook up a printer or other accessories to these. Although I have been experimenting with a WPA2 wireless TMT88-V printer from Epson, but it overloads the wireless signal sometimes and stops working.
DON'T buy the Surface RT, these will not run real windows programs only apps from the ms store.
